It is projected that the grain harvest in the Russian Federation will exceed 139.5 million tons by 2025, with a yield reaching 29 centners per hectare, according to the data provided by Mikhail Vasilyev, the deputy chairman of the board of Rosselkhozbank.
By the end of 2024, the bank's analysts predict a harvest of 130 million tons.
It is worth noting that if this forecast can be achieved by 2025, the indicator will increase by 7% and will enter the top three best indicators in the history of Russia along with 2022 and 2023.
At the same time, the introduction of the latest agricultural technologies, such as field monitoring, precision agriculture, minimum tillage, and land reclamation, helps to use resources more efficiently and reduce losses. Breeders are engaged in creating more resilient and high-yielding varieties adapted to the conditions of the Russian climate. The use of new technologies has also increased the energy efficiency of farms. It should be noted that state support, investments in infrastructure, and the improvement of farmers' qualifications are important factors contributing to a positive forecast, as Vasilyev points out in the press release.
As the deputy chairman notes, the increase in yield is largely due to the improvement of the composition of mineral fertilizers and the methods of their application to the soil, without the need for additional expansion of land areas. He believes that by 2025, the yield could reach 29 centners per hectare and approach the record levels of 2022 and 2023.
"This confirms the intensive, rather than extensive, nature of the development of Russian crop production," Vasilyev emphasizes.
