During the reporting week from 21.03.25 to 28.03.25, world prices for wheat decreased. Prices for various types of wheat are presented below:

  • Soft red winter wheat on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT, ZW) fell to 528.25 cents/bushel (-5.37%);
  • Hard red winter wheat on the Kansas City Board of Trade (KCBT, KE) decreased to 551.75 cents/bushel (-6.28%);
  • Hard red spring wheat on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange (MGE, MWE) reduced to 581.00 cents/bushel (-3.97%);

The corn contract on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT, ZC) declined to 453.25 cents/bushel (-2.37%). The price of rice in Chicago (CBOT, ZR) increased to $13.52/cwt (+0.75%).

Indicative prices (FOB Black Sea) in Russia:

  • Wheat decreased to $246.10/ton (-0.20%);
  • Barley remained at $204.00/ton (+0.00%);
  • Corn remained at $220.90/ton (+0.00%);

Wheat index in Russia, CPT Novorossiysk, rose to 18650 rubles/ton (+2.98%).

Domestic purchase prices for 4th class wheat, 12.5% protein, at the port elevators of the Black and Azov Seas for the reporting period:

  • Novorossiysk – 18650 (0) rubles/ton
  • Taman – 17800 (+250) rubles/ton

GRAIN MARKET NEWS

• Grain harvest in Russia in 2024 was 129.8 million tons including new regions, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture. Additionally, last year Russia became a leader in wheat, barley, and sunflower oil exports in monetary terms.

• The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia approved an order dated March 18, 2025, to determine the maximum and minimum price levels for grain for state purchases and commodity interventions from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.

• The State Duma proposes to introduce a mandatory share of exchange sales up to 25% (of production volume or sales volume) for certain products, including wheat, rye, barley, and corn. The bill aims to establish national price indicators. Small businesses are not required to comply with this rule. If the law is adopted, it will come into force on September 1, 2025.

• The Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Economic Development support the proposal to index internal fertilizer prices. Fertilizer producers request a 10%-15% indexation of internal prices. The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) reports that the issue of indexing will be resolved by summer. Currently, fertilizer prices are frozen at the level of September 2022 until May.

• In the sowing season of 2025 in the Voronezh region, southern areas have already started sowing spring crops. The actual sowing area this year will increase by 101 thousand hectares. In Dagestan, spring crops have been sown on 11.7 thousand hectares, and agricultural producers in the Primorsky Territory have started sowing early grain crops. In the Oryol region, spring sowing started earlier than last year. In the Stavropol Territory, spring crops are sown on 168.4 thousand hectares (18.7% of the planned area). Sowing of spring crops is also being carried out in Chechnya and Kabardino-Balkaria.

• Starting from April 2, 2025, export duties on all grain crops will increase.

BELARUS
• Early spring cereals and leguminous crops have already been sown on an area of 214.6 thousand hectares (35.4% of the plan). Last year on the same date, 119.3 thousand hectares (19.2%) were sown.

KAZAKHSTAN
• Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways) calls on exporters to actively use alternative routes, for which transportation costs for grain to Russian and Baltic ports are subsidized this year. According to the company's data, in the first half of the current marketing year, 7.4 million tons of new harvest grain were transported via the KTZ network (47% more than in the same period last year). Domestic transportation increased by 30% (1.6 million tons), and exports by 53% (5.8 million tons).

UKRAINE
• As of March 28, agricultural producers in Ukraine have sown 551.8 thousand hectares with spring cereals and leguminous crops. Soybean sowing has also begun.
