The MARS crop monitoring service has increased its forecast for grain crop yields in the EU countries, citing high expectations for this indicator in Southern Europe. At the same time, it was noted that dry weather still poses a threat to yields in the northern part of the region, as reported by Oilworld.
According to the new data, the forecast for soft wheat yields is 6.05 tons per hectare, which is higher than the previous month's data (6.04 t/ha). This figure exceeds last year's yield by 9%, which suffered from excessive moisture, and is 5% higher than the average yield over the last five years.
Overall barley yield in the EU, including winter and spring varieties, is forecasted at 5.23 t/ha according to the service's data, which is higher than the previous forecast (5.14 t/ha) and exceeds the five-year average yield by 10%.
In addition, the average maize grain yield has slightly increased to 7.46 t/ha compared to 7.45 t/ha in the previous month.
According to the forecast, rapeseed yield in the EU in 2025 is expected to be at 3.17 t/ha, which is lower than the April forecast (3.2 t/ha) but is 8% higher than last year.
