The system was created in 2002 together with the PayСash company. In March 2007, Yandex bought out a share from its partner and became the full owner of the settlement service. In 2012, Yandex.Money received an NPO license from the Bank of Russia. In the same year, Sberbank bought 75% of the authorized capital of Yandex.Money from Yandex, and in 2020, the remaining share and became the sole shareholder of the service. After this, the service merged with the Sber ecosystem and changed its name to YuMoney.

There is also an alternative - contactless payments for Android. In total, more than 60 million wallets are registered in YuMoney, 2 million plastic and 19 million virtual cards have been issued.

YuMoney electronic payments have been familiar to customers for 18 years. According to Mediascope for 2020, YuMoney is the most popular electronic payment service in Russia: 54.7% of Russian Internet users made payments through it. Now the YuMoney team is developing a pilot product YuBusiness - cash settlement services and business cards for LLCs. Clients can control payments and returns to their current account through their personal account or mobile application.
