The excess of grain in Kazakhstan is causing a slowdown in loading due to an excess of grain trucks and closed wagons.

Carriers recommend that shippers choose supported destinations, including ports in Russia and the Baltic countries. An excess of grain carriers and closed wagons leads to a slowing down of loading caused by long holidays. In 2025, the volumes of grain transportation by rail have increased, especially exports. Freight carriers urge to intensify deliveries.

Carriers of goods recommend grain shippers to be more active in choosing supported directions, including ports in Russia and the Baltic countries. It is reported that recently there has been an excess of grain trucks and closed wagons in the country, according to information from the "APK News" agency.

Last week, a meeting on grain transportation was held in Kazakhstan. According to the Association of Kazakh freight rail carriers, the meeting focused on key market players, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, JSC "Food Corporation," branches of transportation companies, regional transportation management centers, major rolling stock owners, cargo shippers, owners of railway lines, and seaports.

The results of the first half of the marketing year (September 2024 - February 2025) were discussed. According to these results, the volumes of loading of the new grain harvest by railway increased by 47% compared to the previous year, reaching 7.4 million tons. Domestic transportation increased by 30% to 1.6 million tons, while export transportation grew by 53% to 5.8 million tons.

An increase in exports to all major directions was also noted. To Central Asia, 3.2 million tons of grain were sent (+33%), to Afghanistan - 248 thousand tons (+36%). Deliveries to Iran were resumed (+660 thousand tons, an increase by 17 times) and Azerbaijan (+360 thousand tons, an increase by 90 times).

In the first two months of 2025, more than 2.4 million tons of grain were transported by railway (+42.5%), including 1.9 million tons for export (+44.5%).

"Currently, there is an excess of grain trucks and closed wagons due to a slowdown in loading rates caused by prolonged holidays in March," the Association reported.

Freight carriers urge cargo shippers to intensify shipments to supported directions, especially to ports in Russia and the Baltic countries. They note that the infrastructure, wagon fleet, and locomotive technology are fully prepared to ensure the delivery of the declared cargo volumes and efficient logistics solutions.
