The Oilseed Union has sent proposals to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture to introduce export duties on linseed. Mikhail Maltsev, the executive director of the union.
"The Oilseed Union has sent proposals to the Ministry of Agriculture to introduce export duties on flax. At the moment, the level of these duties is being coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture. We propose to set the same level as for rapeseed - 30%. However, we understand that the volume of flax processing represents an insignificant share of the total flax exports, so most likely, this level will be lower," commented Mikhail Maltsev.
The motivation for such a proposal, according to Maltsev, is that flax is currently the only crop that does not receive incentives for domestic processing.
"To ensure equal economic conditions, it is necessary to fill this gap. Since the main countries that are consumers of linseed oil and meal protect their domestic processing market, we also need to protect flax, similar to rapeseed, where an export duty of 30% is established to protect the domestic processing market," explained the expert.
