The upper chamber of the Kazakhstan parliament - the Senate - has approved the Agreement concluded between the governments of Kazakhstan and Turkey in the field of quarantine and plant protection.
According to information received from the Ministry of Agriculture, the purpose of this document is to ensure plant safety and prevent the importation of quarantine harmful organisms. It provides for cooperation between scientific organizations in the field of plant quarantine, as well as the exchange of information on new legislative acts in the field of plant quarantine and national lists of quarantine harmful organisms.
In addition, the agreement establishes requirements for imported batches of sub-quarantine products, accompanying documents, and conditions for transporting goods.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the main categories of sub-quarantine products exported from Kazakhstan to Turkey are all types of cereal crops (wheat, barley, oats, sunflower) and leguminous crops (peas, lentils, chickpeas). Over the past three years, approximately 700 thousand tons of plant products have been exported to Turkey.
"During the same period, 76 cases of attempts to import products that did not meet phytosanitary requirements were identified. Quarantine objects were found in 6 cases. With the increase in the volume of transported sub-quarantine products, there is a risk of penetration into the territory of quarantine objects, the spread of which will negatively affect the phytosanitary situation in our countries," emphasized Deputy Minister Ermek Kenzhehanuly.
