Agricultural workers in Dagestan have sowed spring crops on approximately 40 thousand hectares, which represents more than 17 percent of the planned areas, as reported by the first deputy minister of agriculture and food of the republic, Sharip Sharipov.
"Grains have been sown on approximately 17 thousand hectares, which is more than 23 percent of the plan, vegetables - about 6-7 percent of the plan. Almost half of the area is occupied by perennial grasses. In Dagestan, a large area is usually allocated for perennial grasses, considering the needs of developed livestock farming for feed," said Sharipov.
According to him, in some municipalities, the sowing of spring crops is progressing at an accelerated pace. For example, in the Sergokala district, more than 60 percent of the areas have already been sown, in the Suleiman-Stalsky and Nogay districts - almost 50 percent.
"Agriculturists in Dagestan plan to complete the sowing of spring crops within optimal timeframes. Last year by this date, 45 thousand hectares had been sown. The slight delay this year is due to weather conditions. However, at the moment, the soil moisture level allows sowing to be carried out practically everywhere," noted Sharipov.
He also added that issues related to the supply of seeds, equipment, and fuel for agricultural workers are actively being addressed in the region.
It was previously reported that in 2025, Dagestan plans to sow spring crops on an area of 234 thousand hectares, which is more than in 2024. Grain crops will cover 72.3 thousand hectares (over 30 percent), vegetable crops - 41.9 thousand hectares, and fodder crops - 85.6 thousand hectares or 37 percent. Technical and other crops will be grown on the remaining part of the spring planting area.
