According to a report by the Expert Council on Agricultural Development in China, it is expected that the production of grains and tuber crops will continue to grow and reach a new record in 2025. Last year, the country harvested a record crop of 706.5 million tons, and now it aims to strengthen its position in ensuring grain supplies and other important agricultural products.
The report states that the volume of grain and tuber crop production is expected to reach 709 million tons by 2025. This will be achieved through large-scale efforts to increase crop yield per unit area and the growing enthusiasm of farmers in grain production.
Furthermore, the report predicts that soybean production will also increase. An annual growth rate of 2.5 percent is expected, leading to a production of 21.17 million tons of soybeans by 2025.
With the increase in domestic production and the slowing growth of consumption, China will reduce the import of major agricultural products.
Interestingly, the report also foresees a breakthrough in agricultural productivity in the next decade. China aims to increase the comprehensive potential of grain production and overcome the main risks and challenges facing the industry.
