Five out of six sugar factories in the Lipetsk region have already started their operations, according to the governor Igor Artamonov. Currently, 157.2 thousand tons of sugar beets have been processed, resulting in 13.1 thousand tons of sugar and 4.3 thousand tons of beet pulp. The sixth factory will begin processing in September, according to information from the Ministry of Agriculture.
The governor noted that sugar beets are one of the key grain crops for the Lipetsk region, which is among the top 3 regions in Russia for sugar production. Currently, sugar beets are being harvested in 11 districts and regions of the region. As of today, 196 thousand tons of sugar beets have been harvested from 5.4 thousand hectares, with an average yield of 363 centners per hectare. In the Lipetsk region, the yield reaches 450 centners per hectare. Overall, this year, 115.7 thousand hectares were allocated for sugar beet cultivation in the region.
