In accordance with the provisions of the State assignment, experts from the Plant Protection Department of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Rosselkhoztsentr" for the Leningrad, Murmansk regions, and the Republic of Karelia have begun conducting spring inspections of agricultural plots.
In the farms of the Lomonosov and Gatchina districts of the Leningrad region, phytosanitary inspections of potato fields, where this crop was grown last year, have been carried out to identify the overwintering stock of the Colorado beetle.
The overwintering phase of the Colorado beetle is the adult insect. Overwintering of the Colorado beetle occurs in the soil at a depth of 20 to 50 centimeters. The length of the adult insect ranges from 8 to 12 millimeters, and the width is 6-7 millimeters.
The counting is carried out using the method of soil excavation in accordance with the established methodology.
For plots up to 10 hectares, 8 research samples are taken, for plots from 11 to 50 hectares - 12 samples, for plots from 51 to 100 hectares - 16 samples. For plots exceeding 100 hectares, an additional four samples are taken for every 100 hectares.
Plots measuring 0.25 square meters (0.5 x 0.5 m) are marked, and soil is sequentially extracted from each sample (every 10-20 centimeters per layer) using a shovel to a depth of 40-50 centimeters, then laid on a sheet at the edge of the pit. The soil then passes through a set of sieves with holes measuring 0.5 centimeters, 0.7 centimeters, and 1.0 centimeters, and the material remaining on each sieve is carefully examined.
No Colorado beetles were found during the inspection.
