The Russian veterinary market is increasing its production volume against the backdrop of import substitution policies, with a projected doubling by 2030.

Russian manufacturers of veterinary drugs have ambitious plans, including increasing production and exports, replacing imports of animal products, and expanding product range. The market is actively developing due to import substitution policy, and further growth is expected. AGROBRICS+ in Moscow is scheduled for April 2025.

Opening the meeting, the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Federation Council on Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management, Sergei Mitin, emphasized that BRICS represents a powerful force in the global agricultural market. The combined share of the countries in this union exceeds 30% of fertile land, over 40% of grain and meat production in the world, nearly 40% of the volume of dairy products, and more than half of the total catch of fish and seafood. Despite this, they face a constant threat of global spread of animal diseases and are forced to take measures:

  • for continuous improvement of state veterinary policy;
  • for increasing the volumes of creating modern and efficient drugs for animals.

Sergei Mitin noted that Russian producers of veterinary pharmaceuticals are ready to offer many options in this area.

The CEO of VK Group, Sergei Kasparianz, emphasized in his report how rapidly and extensively the Russian veterinary pharmaceutical market is changing due to import substitution policies. In 2023, the market volume increased by 40% compared to the previous year, reaching 97.7 billion rubles with VAT, while in the previous year it was 71 billion rubles. It is projected that by 2030, this indicator will double and reach 178.6 billion rubles with VAT. There is already an increase in the share of domestic producers in all product groups: the share of antiparasitic drugs increased by approximately 24%, and the share of hormonal drugs increased by 14%. In the field of hygiene and sanitation, full independence from imports has been achieved, with Russian manufacturers accounting for 95%.

According to experts, dependence on imports is directly related to high competitiveness in international markets, and significant changes are expected in the export sphere. The VK group of companies plans to expand the range of exported products from 100 to 145 items by 2030. This will apply to all categories of goods, including antibiotics, antiparasitic drugs, iron-containing preparations, disinfectants, feed additives, and other products. The plans also include expanding the number of partner countries from 51 to 100, which is associated with the development of cooperation with BRICS member states.

For the successful implementation of such ambitious plans, the company is currently actively developing four strategic directions:

  • production of sterile suspensions;
  • establishment of a new production base for the production of coccidiosis drugs;
  • launch of a new work direction - production of "Immunovax" vaccines;
  • import substitution in the field of pet products.

The events were attended by representatives of leading Russian producers of veterinary drugs with export experience, as well as diplomatic delegations from 14 countries: Bangladesh, Brazil, India, Cuba, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Syria, Tunisia, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.

This meeting marked the beginning of a series of events leading up to the AGROBRICS+ exhibition-forum, which will be held in Moscow in April 2025 for the first time.
