In mid-December, in the fields of the Rostov region, less than 10% of winter crops sown for the 2025 harvest have already sprouted. The reason for this situation was unfavorable weather conditions, in particular, the lack of autumn rains. This information was reported by Vyacheslav Vasilenko, the deputy chairman of the Don Parliament and the chairman of the Committee on Agricultural Policy, at the platform of the Rostov Region Assembly. The information was published by the RBC Rostov portal.
Vyacheslav Vasilenko noted that at the moment weather conditions do not bring much optimism, especially in the field of crop production. Only about 10% of winter crops have sprouted. The rest are at the tillering stage, having only two leaves.
Earlier, Konstantin Rachalovsky, the deputy governor and minister of agriculture and food, explained that the ongoing drought and lack of soil moisture had a negative impact on winter crops.
Vyacheslav Vasilenko did not rule out that in such a situation next year, the region's parliamentarians will again turn to the Government of the Russian Federation for support for farmers. Possibly, issues of reducing the bank interest rate for agricultural producers will be considered in order to reduce the credit burden and help them in case of crop failure.
The parliament of the Rostov region has repeatedly sought support for agricultural producers this year when there were crop losses in the region and other regions of the country due to spring frosts and summer drought. The authorities of the Rostov region estimated the damage to farmers from unfavorable weather conditions at 5 billion rubles. Due to the drought, farmers lost 50 thousand hectares of crops without the possibility of restoring them.
This year, the total grain harvest in the Don region amounted to more than 11.3 million tons. By the results of 2023, the farms of the Rostov region received 16.4 million tons of grain. The impact of frosts and drought caused a decrease in the harvest.
