During the analysis of the horticultural sub-sector of the region for the past year of 2024, the director of the State Institution "Stavropolvinogradplodoprom" Alexey Lysenko reported a positive trend. He pointed out that over the past five years, the production of fruit and berry products has doubled, reaching 87.3 thousand tons. Special attention was paid to the share of stone fruit crops, which accounted for 87%, especially apple trees.
It is important to note that the changes affected not only the physical aspect of modern orchards, where methods of intensive and superintensive planting are being introduced, but also the evaluation of its productivity and the quality of the fruits obtained. For trees on dwarf rootstocks, faster fruiting is characteristic than for regular apple trees — approximately in two to three years, compared to five to six years earlier.
Today, many gardeners confidently switch to high-density plantings of apple trees, seeing them as a potential source of income, while complying with all necessary phytosanitary standards. This helps the industry meet the growing demand and expectations of consumers regarding the quality of apples and other fruit and berry products from the Stavropol region.
The First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Stavropol Krai, Elena Tambovtseva, presenting a new mechanism of state support for horticulture for 2025 to the participants of the event. It provides for financial support for expenses for the care of perennial plantings, including nurseries. Elena Tambovtseva also highlighted the need for planning work to achieve the set targets.
Currently, all work in the orchards of Stavropol is completed, and the trees are in a dormant state, under the close attention of specialists.
The Head of the Stavropol Krai, Vladimir Vladimirov, pays great attention to the horticultural sub-sector, which contributes to its long-term development.
