According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Agriculture, pork production for slaughter by 2030 will increase by 25% compared to 2023, specifically by 1.13 million tons, reaching 7.19 million tons live weight. Oleg Lityaykin, Managing Director of the Industry Expertise Center at Rosselkhozbank, shared this information at the XVI International Scientific and Practical Conference "Swine Breeding - 2024. A New Development Impetus until 2030."
He stated that during the period from 2024 to 2026, a growth of 550-600 thousand tons will be ensured through the expansion of production at enterprises that invested from 2018 to 2023. To achieve growth in the period from 2027 to 2030 (+600-650 thousand tons), investments of 170 billion rubles are required for the construction of at least 30 pig complexes with a capacity of 20 thousand tons of pigs for slaughter per year each.
In addition, due to the increase in livestock, it is necessary to increase the production of mixed feed by approximately 3 million tons per year by 2030, requiring an additional 18 billion rubles. Lityaykin noted that due to high competition for land resources, it is necessary to develop the production of "new" sources of protein for animal feed. By 2030, it is necessary to find an additional source of protein in the amount of 600 thousand tons per year, in addition to traditional production methods such as crop production.
Investments are also required in slaughter and primary meat processing, estimated at 72 billion rubles excluding capacities for storage and deep processing. Lityaykin pointed out that to achieve the goal of increasing pork production by 25% by 2030, it is necessary to additionally attract 15 thousand specialists in the field of animal husbandry. He also noted that the state currently supports investments in pig breeding only in relation to mixed feed, slaughter and processing, as well as processing of biological waste and manure.
Meanwhile, Sergey Voskresensky, Director of the Department of Livestock Farming and Breeding at the Ministry of Agriculture, announced at the conference that the department is considering the possibility of resuming preferential investment lending in pig breeding in 2025. "We have already submitted proposals on the parameters of this preferential lending and hope that we will be able to restore this form of support," he added.
