According to forecasts from the Foreign Agricultural Service of the USDA (FAS USDA), the soybean harvest in Argentina in 2024-2025 is estimated to reach 52 million metric tons. This forecast is one million tons higher than the previous estimate made by experts at the service in Buenos Aires.
Local farmers prefer to grow soybeans instead of corn due to concerns about the corn dwarfism epidemic. Low corn prices and expectations of dry weather also encourage farmers to switch to soybean cultivation.
The forecast for soybean processing in 2024-2025 is increased to 42 million tons based on assumptions of crop growth and imported volumes, mainly from Paraguay. This growth is attributed to the recovery of Argentina's processing sector after several dry years.
FAS USDA also predicts an increase in sunflower seed sowing area to 1.9 million hectares with an expected yield of 4 million tons, although growth will be limited by dry conditions in the northern part of the country during planting.
