One of the most important events in the field of botany in Volgograd was the popular botanical walks in the outdoor area with plants. These walks took place from April to October and attracted many flora enthusiasts.
The staff of the botanical garden presented visitors with unique plant species of the region, various varieties of flowering plants, and a collection of clematis. The greenhouse economy in Volzhsky also became a popular place where exhibitions and festivals were held during the flowering season of various plants.
The main events included an exhibition of early flowering plants, which featured a variety of tulips, cyclamens, freesias, hyacinths, daffodils, and other early blooming plants. There was also an exhibition of annuals, which immediately gained popularity among Volgograd residents. The traditional "Chrysanthemum Ball" showcased a variety of chrysanthemum varieties developed by Russian and foreign breeders. The botanical garden also participated in the "Future in Flowers" festival organized in May.
Special attention is paid to environmental education activities. Lectures, master classes, consultations for schoolchildren and students were held. A children's eco-festival called "Ecokidhood" and a scientific conference "Youth Ecological Readings" were organized. Scientific staff of the botanical garden also took part in expeditions to study the habitats of rare plant species and became co-authors of articles for the new volume of the Red Book of Russia "Plants and Fungi."
In the near future, there are plans to increase the garden's attendance by 2-3 times. Modernization will be carried out as part of the garden's development program.
Domestic tourism, especially in the ecological direction, is a promising opportunity for the region's economic growth. According to the development program, by the end of 2034, the number of tourists should reach 5 million people per year.
The Governor of the Volgograd Region, Andrey Bocharov, outlined tasks for creating new infrastructure facilities for hospitality, effectively using the region's potential, and preparing personnel for the tourism industry.
