Russia supports the project of the "New Land Grain Corridor" for grain supplies to the Chinese market. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin emphasized the importance of ensuring food security and plans for delivering agricultural products to China.

Five out of six sugar factories in the Lipetsk region are already in operation, processing 157.2 thousand tons of sugar beets, producing 13.1 thousand tons of sugar, and 4.3 thousand tons of beet pulp. The sixth factory will start operating in September. The region is among the top 3 sugar producers in Russia, having harvested 196 thousand tons of sugar beets with a yield of up to 450 c/ha.

Regions are getting ready for sowing winter crops for the 2025 harvest. An increase in the cost of sowing by 15% is expected. Seeds have become 30% more expensive, fertilizers – 15-25%, and fuel – 15%. Companies will reduce the sowing of winter crops, but do not plan to reduce spring crops. The optimal sowing dates are August 25th.

Export of goods from Russia to China is growing, but not wheat. Supplies of electricity and aluminum have increased, but wheat volumes remain at the same level due to phytosanitary regulations and transportation difficulties.

China imported 6 million tons of wheat, with Russia supplying only 30,000 tons. The main suppliers are Australia and Canada.

The management experts of the "Grain Quality Assessment Center" of the Novorossiysk branch conducted an inspection of 9,811.2 thousand tons of wheat, which constitutes 94.1% of the harvest. The main volumes of grain were assessed in the Kanevskoy, Kushchevskoy, Novopokrovskoy, Yeysk, and Tikhoretsky districts. The moisture content, gluten, protein, impurities, and grain safety were examined. 78% of the wheat is of food quality, including 17.8% of the 3rd grade and 60.9% of the 4th grade.

MFIG purchased 65,000 tons of feed corn from Brazil at $197.90 per bushel from ADM. The delivery is expected in March 2025.

Analysis of sunflower sowing areas in the Rostov region showed that it occupies the third place in terms of areas after the Saratov and Orenburg regions. In 2023, the Rostov region led in gross yield and has high productivity. In 2024, the sown areas increased by 0.3%, amounting to 945.1 thousand hectares. Seed yields can reach 2,179.8 thousand tons.

Farmers of the Tyumen region have harvested a significant crop of grain, peas, potatoes, and vegetables. On 66,689 hectares, 169,542 tons of grain were threshed and 10,600 tons of potatoes were harvested.

The vegetable yield also pleased: 2.9 thousand tons of cabbage, 1.6 thousand tons of beets, and 451 tons of carrots were harvested.

The forecast for wheat harvest in Russia has been revised to 82.5 million tons, which is lower than the previous forecast of 83.3 million tons.

Low yield is expected in the central regions and the Volga region, while good results are anticipated in Siberia and the Urals.

Producers are expected to successfully harvest the crop on time.

Rostov Oblast is a leader in sunflower cultivation in Russia. In 2024, the sown areas increased despite a reduction in the country. Yield reached record levels in 2023. A decrease in productivity is predicted in Russia, but sunflower yields in the region will remain high. Seed yields have also increased and continue to grow.

The FAO reported that global food prices reached a historic high in February. The index rose by 3.9% compared to January and by 24.1% year-on-year.

The biggest price increases were observed in vegetable oils and dairy products, while sugar prices decreased by 1.9%.

China has reduced its imports of Russian rapeseed oil by 33%, but Russia remains the main supplier. This year, China purchased oil from 20 countries. The area of ​​rapeseed sown in Russia has increased by 29.3%, with a forecasted harvest of 5 million tons. Domestic demand for rapeseed oil is low, so the majority will be exported.
