"Yubilei Dona" variety in the final stage of experiments: prospects of the crop in the Luhansk People's Republic

Scientific experiments at the station include testing winter wheat and barley. The Yubilei Don variety shows the best results, and farmers are recommended to sow it at a depth of 5 to 6 cm for better plant development. Herbicides can damage the crop in case of moisture deficit. After the experiments, information about the varieties will be provided to farmers for sowing next year.

As part of scientific experiments at the station, various types of winter wheat are being tested: Vasilich, Ermak, Lydia, Gift of Crimea, Jubilee of Don, and Shef. In addition, an analysis of varieties of winter barley, Yeryoma and Fox-1, is being conducted.

At an extraordinary event, Deputy Rector for Scientific Activities of the Lugansk Agricultural University, Alexander Khudoley, representatives of the Lugansk branch of the RosAgroKhimService, and specialists from the Lugansk regional branch of the Rosselkhoztsentr were present. These organizations are engaged in crop testing in June.

"With the proper use of modern agricultural techniques, the mentioned plant varieties from Rosselkhoztsentr successfully overcome the challenges of arid conditions during the autumn-spring period of 2024-2025. The best results at the moment are demonstrated by the Jubilee of Don variety. Active formation of ears in crops is being observed," shared agronomist Roman Chestny from the "Donetsk" branch of Rosselkhoztsentr.

The mid-ripening variety Jubilee of Don was included in the official register of agricultural achievements in 2021. It is characterized by excellent resistance to winter conditions and drought, as well as high indicators for flour production. The expected yield averages 49.2 centners per hectare, with a maximum of 95.8 centners per hectare. The specific crop volumes that farmers in the LPR will be able to harvest will be determined during the experiments.

During the meeting, issues of herbicide application on winter crops during moisture deficits and recurrent frosts in May were also discussed. Improper use of herbicides can lead to serious crop losses.

It is interesting to note that farmers on the Don River sow winter crops at a depth of about 3 centimeters, whereas agricultural producers in the Lugansk People's Republic are recommended to sow the same varieties at a depth of 5-6 centimeters. This contributes to better wintering of plants and more efficient development in hot and arid conditions.

"Upon completion of the experiments, we will evaluate the potential application of varieties from the scientific center "Don" in the territory of the LPR, after which we will present all the information to the farmers from the Lugansk People's Republic so that by the beginning of autumn they can purchase them for sowing the next crop in 2025," emphasized Roman Chestny.
