According to Oil World reports, the processing volume of soybeans in the US in May was estimated at 5.54 million tons, which is 6.3% higher than last year's figure of 5.22 million tons and April's 5.51 million tons this year.
For the period from September to May of the 2024/25 season, soybean processing volume in the country increased by 6% compared to the previous season, reaching 50.2 million tons (47.3 million tons last year).
Experts have also raised their predictions for oilseed processing in the US for the entire 2024/25 season to 66.1 million tons and forecast additional growth to 68.4 million tons in 2025/26, assuming an increase in domestic soy oil production due to growing demand from the biofuel industry in light of upcoming policy changes.
In May, soybean oil production reached 1.1 million tons (1.09 million tons in the previous month; 1.03 million tons in May 2024). Domestic soy oil consumption rose to 1.02 million tons in May, but remained lower than a year ago (1.08 million tons).
The export of soybean oil from the United States is at a minimum level – 130 thousand tons due to loss of competitiveness in the global market and is currently offered at high premiums compared to local soybean oil. Soybean oil stocks in the US by the end of May were anomalously low – only 851 thousand tons compared to 992 thousand tons last year.
