The European Commission has granted permission for the use of genetically modified soy in food and feed products. This information comes from an analysis conducted by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), as reported by the Feedlot portal.

According to the Commission's assessment, GM soy has undergone thorough and extensive research, ensuring a high level of protection for human health, animals, and the environment. The decision made by the European Commission allows for the import of genetically modified soy for use in food and feed products for animals, but not for cultivation within the EU.

The authorization is valid for 10 years, and strict EU rules regarding labeling and traceability apply to all products derived from this GM soy.

"According to the announcement, the European Commission was legally obliged to make this decision due to the lack of the required majority of votes in favor or against from member states," the statement explains.
