In the agricultural year 2024-2025 (from July to June the following year in Russia – ROSNG), the areas allocated for sowing oil crops may increase by 200-350 thousand hectares after a decrease in the current year.
According to him, this growth will affect all main crops, except sunflower (flax, rapeseed, soybeans, and safflower). The sunflower areas will decrease from 9.818 to 9.55-9.7 million hectares. At the same time, flax areas will increase from 1.4 to one and a half million hectares, rapeseed - from 2.108 to 2.2-2.3 million hectares, soybeans - from 3.268 to 3.9-4 million hectares. The expert did not provide data for safflower. He explained the possible reduction in sunflower sowings by problems with sowing and certain quality risks of some seeds.
The harvest of oil crops as a whole, according to Rylko, may set a new record and exceed 30 million tons with favorable weather. He also reminded that projects for processing oil crops are being implemented in the country. In the next three to four years, it is planned to increase the harvest by 4.5-6.5 million tons. This will require additional expansion of areas by 1.5-2.5 million hectares. The main focus will be on ensuring the domestic market. It is worth noting that there is still a ban on the export of some oil crops in the country, such as sunflower and rapeseed.
