Data from the Altai branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Grain Quality Assessment Center” indicate that in 2023, Altai farmers exported 4.5 times more peas than in the previous year. The total export volume of this crop amounted to 138.7 thousand tons, while in 2022 only 31.7 thousand tons were exported.
For a long time, Russian farmers were denied access to the Chinese market. However, in 2022, China signed a protocol on phytosanitary requirements for Russian peas, which opened up new opportunities for grain exports from Russia.
In addition, the number of Altai pea supplies also increased in Tajikistan (367 tons compared to 68 tons in 2022) and Serbia (160 tons versus 44 tons, respectively). Supplies to Kazakhstan remained at the same level. At the same time, countries such as Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Germany, Georgia, Malaysia, Moldova, Mongolia, Republic of Korea, USA, Taiwan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have shown interest in Altai peas, which was not the case in 2022.
