Russia will send grain to Mongolia to help livestock breeders fight winter feed shortages.

The Russian government has approved the export of grain to Mongolia without paying taxes as humanitarian aid. Buryatia will send more than 420 grain trucks with 8.5 thousand tons of grain. This will help Mongolian livestock farmers survive the winter famine caused by snowfalls and cold weather.

The Russian government has approved simplified grain exports to Mongolia as humanitarian aid, the Cabinet of Ministers press service reports.

Relevant directives have been issued to customs and other regulatory authorities. Buryatia has already expressed readiness for deliveries, which will send over 420 grain trucks with 8.5 thousand tons of feed wheat and oats to the bordering country. Deliveries will be made without payment of taxes and customs duties. This product will be used as feed for livestock. The Government reminded that feed grain contains a lot of protein, which will help livestock suffering from hunger to recover faster.

The head of Buryatia, Alexey Tsydenov, said the region can provide assistance to its friendly republic. Last year, Buryatia received a record grain harvest of 140.6 thousand tons, exceeding the previous year's figures by 20%. "We will selflessly provide feed grain to our neighbors, friends, and brothers as humanitarian aid," the head of the republic stated.

This measure will help Mongolian livestock breeders survive severe frosts caused by an extremely cold winter. It is worth reminding that snowfalls and a sharp drop in temperature in Mongolia at the beginning of the year led to winter fodder shortages, also known as the "white dzud." The high snow cover deprived livestock of access to natural forage. Several thousand livestock breeders have suffered from this phenomenon, especially in the aimags (first-level administrative units in Mongolia) of Dornogovi and Dornod, where the snow cover reached 60 centimeters.
