In the Lipetsk region, there are six sugar factories that are already processing fresh beets. At the moment, out of 499 thousand tons of beets, 63.8 thousand tons of sugar have been produced. This is significantly more than last year on the same date when 40 thousand tons of sugar were produced, as reported by the Lipetsk newspaper.
The factories not only process local beets but also bring them from neighboring regions. Harvesting continues in 16 districts of the region: 481.8 thousand tons of beets have already been harvested from 14 thousand hectares of land. The yield is lower than last year due to spring frosts and lack of moisture, but the sugar content in beets is higher - 17.9%, compared to last year's 15.28%.
In addition, in 2024, 115.7 thousand hectares of land will be allocated for beets in the region. The Lipetsk region is constantly among the top three leaders in beet and sugar production in the country.
