The lack of precipitation has reduced the grain harvest in the south of Russia, and emergency aid measures have been introduced.

In Southern Russia, the harvesting of grain has begun. Due to the lack of precipitation, the yield has decreased: in the Rostov region - 2 t/ha (compared to 3.6 t/ha last year), in the Krasnodar region - 4.5 t/ha (compared to 6.2 t/ha last year), in the Stavropol region - 4 t/ha. Restrictions have been imposed in some areas due to drought so that farmers could receive compensation. There are plans to increase the yield. The annual forecast is 83 million tons of wheat.

In the southern regions of Russia, the harvesting of the first grains has already begun, as noted in the latest report by the "SovEcon" agency. The yield in the main agricultural regions of the south turned out to be lower than last year's figures due to a lack of precipitation.

In the Rostov region, the key region for wheat cultivation, the yield of the first grains was 2 tons per hectare compared to 3.6 tons the previous year, and in the Krasnodar region it was 4.5 tons compared to 6.2 tons last year. At the same time, in the Stavropol region, the yield level is 4 tons per hectare, which exceeds last year's level by 3.5 tons per hectare.

In the Krasnodar and Rostov regions, the initial yield decreased due to lack of precipitation, while in Stavropol, moisture reserves remained above average.

Due to dry weather, a state of emergency was declared in 19 out of 43 administrative districts of the Rostov region. Similar measures were taken in 8 out of 34 districts of the Krasnodar region, mainly in the northern part of the region. The purpose of introducing a state of emergency is to provide agricultural producers with the opportunity to receive insurance compensation for losses.

“We expect an increase in yield as the harvest is collected from less productive fields,” say experts.

According to "SovEcon," the wheat harvest in the South is estimated at 31.5 million tons compared to 32.6 million tons the previous year. The reduction in grain yield in the southern regions due to unfavorable weather conditions has already been taken into account in forecasts.

The "SovEcon" agency suggests that the wheat production volume in Russia this year will be 83 million tons compared to 82.4 million tons last year. Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation confirmed its forecast: 135 million tons of grain and 90 million tons of wheat.

“Overall, the data is in line with our expectations, although it may prompt some market participants to reconsider their forecasts of a ‘very successful wheat harvest in Russia’,” said the analytical center.
