A specially developed hybrid of sugar beet of the normal-sugar type called RUP 354 CCC was created by Belarusian and Russian breeders. This high-tech hybrid possesses excellent raw material quality.
In terms of yield, it is on par with similar hybrids from Western seed companies. The hybrid has already undergone three years of trials in the State Variety Testing of the Republic of Belarus, although it has not been zoned yet. However, the Ministry of Agriculture of Belarus has already issued permission for its use this year. A similar hybrid, RUP 363 CCC, has been cultivated in Belarusian farms for the second consecutive year. The joint hybrid RUP 380 CCC is undergoing trials for the first year.
The main sphere of activity of the Experimental Station in Nesvizh is scientific research on sugar beet cultivation issues. Thanks to the breeding-seed complex, the institution can obtain 1-2 generations of promising sugar beet breeding materials in one year, while it takes two years in field conditions. This speeds up the breeding process by approximately 2-2.5 times.
The station also has a laboratory for in vitro culture, a technical characteristics laboratory, and a phytopathology and immunity laboratory, where genetic material of sugar beet is screened for resistance to diseases such as cercospora, phomopsis, ramularia, alternaria, fusarium, and rhizoctonia.
Currently, there are 5 promising sugar beet hybrids in the State Variety Testing of the Republic of Belarus, resistant to leaf disease, with a potential root yield of 730-780 tons/ha and a sugar content of 18%.
