The Federal Agency for Fishery plans to increase the total allowable catch (TAC) in 2026 in the internal marine waters, on the continental shelf, and in the exclusive economic zone of the Russian Federation. This decision was made taking into account a precautionary approach and recommendations of scientists on the conservation of aquatic biological resources.
It is planned to increase the TAC by 61.1 thousand tons, which will lead to a total catch volume of 3.65 million tons. Recent studies have shown an increase in stocks of several fish species, especially pollock and herring. Increasing the TAC will allow Russian fishermen to increase the volumes of their catch.
The largest amount of fish that fishermen will be able to catch will be pollock (2.4 million tons), Pacific herring (534.9 thousand tons), cod (134.9 thousand tons), and Commander squid (110 thousand tons). The TAC for Pacific salmon in the exclusive economic zone of Russia in 2026 will be 1.29 thousand tons.
The increase in the total allowable catch in 2026 will be: pollock - 1.3%, Pacific herring - 17.9%, snow crab - 13.5%, opilio crab - 2.7%.
All proposals were considered at the meeting of the Scientific Council of the Federal Agency for Fishery, where a decision was also made to increase the total allowable catch for 2025.
The increase in the total allowable catch in 2025 will be:
- pollock in the West Sakhalin subzone - 50 thousand tons (+20%);
- halibut in the East Sakhalin subzone - 4.6 thousand tons (+43%);
- herring in the Karaginsky subzone - 95.8 thousand tons (+47.7%);
