The Grain Terminal Complex Taman (ZTCT, 50% owned by "Demetra-Holding") has begun implementing an extensive project to modernize its berths. Within the project, it is planned to deepen the seabed and build a second line of conveyors, which will lead to an increase in the number of vessels shipped at the terminal by 60% - from 125 to 200 per year, as reported by the company's press service.
Currently, design studies are underway to deepen the seabed at berths No. 3 and 4, which will enable raising the maximum draft of vessels from 12.1 m to 13.1 m, and the maximum cargo capacity at berth No. 3 - from 65,000 tons to 110,000 tons. This will allow fully loading New Panamax class vessels (deadweight of 120,000 tons), reducing costs for exporting companies.
The implementation of the second line of conveyors will also increase the average loading speed of grain vessels from 1,100 tons per hour to 1,750 tons per hour. Additionally, the application of a set of technical solutions is planned to strengthen and protect the wharf from storms.
The port modernization is the first stage of the terminal's development strategy, which will significantly increase its shipping capabilities, noted ZTCT General Director Sergey Gnatko. "The second stage will be the construction of railway infrastructure, which will provide an additional volume of grain from the central and Volga regions of Russia. These investment projects will increase the annual grain transshipment at the terminal from the current 5.5 million tons to 8 million tons," he added.
In November of last year, a Concession Agreement was signed between "Russian Railways" and the "Taman Railway Company," a joint venture between "Demetra-Holding" and "Efco" Group, to create railway infrastructure to the seaports on the Taman Peninsula. According to the plans, by 2027, railway infrastructure with a capacity of up to 7 million tons of grain cargoes, meal, and vegetable oils per year will be built to the "Demetra-Holding" and "Efco" maritime terminals in the port of Taman.
The previous season ZTCT concluded with a historic record, transshipping 5.4 million tons of grain, which is 23% more than in the previous 2022/23 season when the transshipment volume was 4.4 million tons. The number of vessels shipped at the terminal in the last season increased by 27%, from 103 to 131, and the acceptance from trucks grew by 13%, from 153,000 to 173,000 grain trucks. New maximum daily and monthly acceptance rates were also achieved - 752 and 18.6 thousand trucks, respectively.
