During the inspection of a batch of linden timber measuring 85 cubic meters by the phytosanitary post "Khabarovsk," a quarantine pest for the importing country was found - the roundheaded appletree borer (Saperda perforata (Scop.)).
The presence of the pest was confirmed during laboratory tests conducted by the Far Eastern branch of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "VNIIKR," which is under the supervision of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (dated June 2, 2025).
It should be noted that the specified species of forest pests is quarantine for the People's Republic of China.
After disinfection of the batch of timber materials, the exporter will be able to apply for a phytosanitary certificate.
Previously, the roundheaded appletree borer was not detected in timber materials from the Khabarovsk region.
The roundheaded appletree borer belongs to the longhorn beetle family. These insects got their name for the characteristic creaking sounds they make when disturbed. The larvae of the borer cause the most damage to plants by distorting poplars, aspens, and willows. By burrowing into the wood, they begin to eat it, leaving tunnels and galleries. This weakens the tree, making it more susceptible to diseases and attacks by other pests, ultimately leading to its death.
