During the past week, from October 25, 2024, to November 1, 2024, world wheat prices were decreasing. The following wheat prices were observed:
- Soft red winter wheat on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT, ZW) fell to 568.00 cents/bushel (-0.18%);
- Hard red winter wheat on the Kansas City Board of Trade (KCBT, KE) decreased to 566.75 cents/bushel (-0.92%);
- Hard red spring wheat on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange (MGE, MWE) reduced to 599.75 cents/bushel (-0.91%);
The price of corn on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT, ZC) dropped to 414.50 cents/bushel (-0.18%). The price of rice in Chicago (CBOT, ZR) fell to $14.82/cwt (-1.72%).
Indicative prices for the Russian market (FOB Black Sea):
- wheat rose to $223.60/ton (+1.27%);
- barley increased to $194.80/ton (+2.26%);
- corn went up to $221.10/ton (+3.03%);
The Russian wheat index, CPT Novorossiysk, dropped to 17827 rubles/ton (-0.54%).
Purchase prices for 4th-grade wheat with 12.5% protein at port elevators of the Black Sea and Azov Sea for the reporting period:
- Azov – 15200 (0) rubles/ton
- Novorossiysk – 18200 (-400) rubles/ton
- Rostov-on-Don – 15900 (0) rubles/ton
- Taganrog – 15200 (-300) rubles/ton
- Taman – 17350 (-50) rubles/ton
NTB will resume the grain sales from the Federal Intervention Fund on November 7, 2024. The last sales were conducted on October 18.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade proposes to increase the utilization fee coefficients for certain types of agricultural machinery produced in Russia and Belarus by 5 times in 2025. Tractors up to 340 hp are excluded from this proposal. It is also suggested to carry out an annual indexation of 15% for all types of machinery from 2026 to 2030.
The shortage of tractors in the agricultural sector of Russia is 65 thousand units, and combines - 34 thousand units. The share of tractors operated for more than 10 years is about 53%, while for combines it's 45%, and for forage harvesters - 44%. These data are contained in the materials of the Ministry of Agriculture, proposing changes to the development strategy of the agro-industrial and fisheries complexes of Russia until 2030.
The Ministry of Agriculture plans to increase financing for preferential leasing for farmers by almost twofold in 2025. Additionally, it is planned to allocate an additional 4.5 billion rubles.
According to Rosstat, as of October 1, 2024, 111.4 million tons of grain were harvested in all categories of farms, which is 11.7% lower than the same date last year. It is necessary to harvest about 11.4% of the sown area of grain and leguminous crops (excluding corn). Rosstat also reported that agricultural production in Russia decreased by 2.3% over 9 months.
Status of the harvesting campaign in the regions of Russia. In the Lipetsk region, the corn harvest exceeded last year's collection, although the harvest is not yet complete. In the Voronezh region, grain yields decreased by 31% this year. In the Zabaykalsky Krai, almost half as much grain was harvested as last year, with a decrease in yield by 3 centners. In the Kemerovo region, due to weather conditions, crops on 59 thousand hectares perished, causing damage of over 800 million rubles. In Chuvashia, grain harvest in 2024 decreased by 20%. In the Penza region, a state of emergency was declared from October 30 due to drought.
Rosselkhoznadzor discovered illegal schemes for the supply of quarantined products from Kazakhstan. Unauthorized use of details of more than 100 companies not engaged in foreign economic activity was registered when issuing phytosanitary certificates for export to Russia. Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan considers Rosselkhoznadzor's accusations unfounded and hopes to lift the restrictions on the import of products into the Russian Federation within a week.
Starting from November 7, 2024, customs duties on all grain crops will be raised again.
