Import of vegetable oils to India reached a historical maximum in June 2024, increasing by 236 thousand tonnes compared to the previous year.

Import of vegetable oils in June 2024 increased to 1,550.659 thousand tons, exceeding last year's figures by 236.183 thousand tons. The increase is associated with the growth of imports of unrefined palm and sunflower oils.

A total of 1,527.481 thousand tons of food oils and 23.178 thousand tons of non-food oils were imported.

According to the report presented by the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA), the volume of vegetable oil imports in June 2024 amounted to 1,550.659 thousand tonnes, exceeding the previous year's figures by 236.183 thousand tonnes.

The increase in imports is mainly due to the growth in the import of crude palm oil and crude sunflower oil. According to the report, the volume of edible oil imports increased to 1,527.481 thousand tonnes (compared to 1,311.576 thousand tonnes in June 2023), while the volume of non-edible oil imports was 23.178 thousand tonnes.
