Last year, Omsk producers chose the following fiber flax varieties for sowing, which were included in the register of breeding achievements of the Russian Federation and recommended for cultivation in the West Siberian region: Tomsky 16, Tomsky 17, Tomsky 18, TOST, TOST 3, TOST 4, TOAST 5 and In Memory of Krepkov.
The Tomsky 17 variety was created in 1991 and is distinguished by its strong stem, uniform ripening, resistance to shedding and lodging, and its suitability for mechanized harvesting. It is also resistant to diseases such as fusarium and rust.
The Tomsky 18 variety was bred in 1992 and is an early ripening variety with a growing season of 70-76 days. It combines high productivity with excellent fiber quality. The variety is resistant to lodging and major diseases such as rust and fusarium, and is easily subject to mechanized harvesting.
The TOST variety, included in the register of breeding achievements in 2006, is an early-ripening breeding variety with a tendency towards mid-ripening, especially in the West Siberian region. It is resistant to lodging, shedding and drought.
On the eve of the spring campaign of 2024, it is recommended that farms engaged in the cultivation of fiber flax promptly check the quality of seed material, especially pay attention to phytopathological examination. The decision on the suitability of a seed lot for sowing and the need to treat seeds with fungicides before sowing is made based on the results of the analyzes performed.
