During the governor's arrival at the event, he was accompanied by high-ranking officials, representatives of the parliament, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the heads of agricultural enterprises.
Governor Vladimir Vladimirov visited the fields of the North Caucasus Federal Scientific Agricultural Center, where he inspected the crops of experimental wheat varieties. This center is one of the 35 breeding and seed-growing centers in Russia. It ranks second in the country in breeding grain and forage crops and is a leader in the number and diversity of perennial legumes and cereal grasses. Over the past four years, the Center has put 55 new varieties to the test.
The governor set a task to achieve complete self-sufficiency of the region in the agricultural sector with its own seeds.
"Thanks to the work of breeding centers, we will be able to provide Stavropol farmers with grain seeds. But we need to expand the capabilities of our breeders, taking into account the climatic features of the region, in order to provide agricultural producers with high-quality seeds grown on our land in the future. We have already laid the foundation for this. We will accelerate breeding, develop new varieties, and provide new opportunities for farmers," Governor Vladimir Vladimirov said.
Then the governor visited the "Dubovsky" collective farm to assess the condition of the cereal crops. At the moment, about 2300 hectares of winter cereals are sown here, including 1700 hectares of winter wheat and 500 hectares of winter barley. The crops are in good condition.
Overall, this year about 2.4 million hectares of grain crops were sown in the Stavropol region. Harvesting will begin in mid-June. Stavropol farmers have been allocated 5.9 billion rubles of state support. Of this amount, more than two billion rubles have already been received by recipients.
Agrarian insurance is actively developing in the region. Stavropol Krai has allocated 1 billion rubles to support agrarian insurance in crop production. The areas of land reclamation are also expanding. Currently, the area of irrigated lands is 92 thousand hectares, and next year it will increase to 100 thousand hectares. This year, farmers will receive 820 million rubles for the land reclamation program.
