Uzbekistan is increasing its imports of Kazakh sunflower oil by 70% over the first eight months of 2023/24.

Uzbekistan has increased its import of sunflower oil from Kazakhstan by 70%. The export of crude oil has grown to 92.9 thousand tons, refined oil - to 34.42 thousand tons. The export of seeds has decreased to 4.7 thousand tons due to a duty.

According to the results of the first eight months of the 2023/24 year, Uzbekistan not only maintains its position as the main importer of Kazakh sunflower oil but also increases purchases of this product. This information is reported by APK-Inform, referring to official statistics.

Only from October 2023 to May 2024, Kazakhstan exported 127.32 thousand tons of sunflower oil to Uzbekistan, which is 70% higher than the figure for the same period of the previous season.

Out of this volume, 92.9 thousand tons are unrefined sunflower oil (compared to 57.81 thousand tons in the eight months of the previous season). Imports of refined sunflower oil from Kazakhstan more than doubled - from 16.85 thousand tons to 34.42 thousand tons.

At the same time, deliveries of sunflower seeds from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan significantly decreased due to Kazakhstan's introduction of an export duty. Official data shows that in the first eight months of this season, Uzbekistan purchased only 4.7 thousand tons of oilseeds (compared to 86.9 thousand tons in a similar period of the previous season).
