German farmers' association Deutscher Bauernverband (DBV) estimates that the winter barley harvest is nearly complete in Germany, with yields slightly above initial expectations, despite problems due to adverse weather conditions in the spring and early summer.
Thus, as of July 4, the harvest of winter barley is 9.5 million tons compared to 8.7 million tons harvested in 2022/23 MY and 9.03 million tons previously forecast by the association.
It is noted that winter barley crops in Germany were not significantly affected by dry weather in the spring and early summer, so the yield was higher than expected. The quality of the winter barley crop is generally assessed as good.
At the same time, wheat and rapeseed crops, which have not yet been harvested in Germany, suffered more from non-optimal weather conditions.
