The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission discussed measures to regulate the export of durum wheat in order to ensure a balanced market. While working to bring closer together the export regulations adopted by the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union and ensure the effective functioning of the internal market, the Council considered possible steps to achieve this goal. The introduction of non-tariff regulation measures for the export of durum wheat by member states is currently being discussed.
Minister of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Andrei Slepnev, noted that global production of durum wheat in the current agricultural year could decrease by about 8%, which creates the risk of a shortage in the market and a possible increase in prices for pasta, which is a socially important food product. In this regard, the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission adopted a corresponding instruction in order to ensure the supply of Russian wheat to other countries of the union in the volumes necessary for domestic consumption.
