The report of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation revealed violations in the use of 350 million rubles (3.6 million dollars) of grants intended for the development of potato and sugar beet breeding, according to the publication "Budget". Auditor Sergey Mamedov informed the Federation Council that the funds were not spent as intended, and the purchased equipment remained idle for a long time.
The audit was initiated due to a shortage of domestic seeds.
As a result of the investigation, the Ministry of Agriculture has changed the system of state support: now funds will be reimbursed based on actual expenses confirmed by relevant documents.
