In the current season, Russia, according to the forecasts of Dmitry Rylko, General Director of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR), can repeat last year’s record for the collection of oilseeds.
He stated this during the Pig Breeding 2023 conference in Moscow. During the season, we seriously changed our forecast for the oilseed crop this year and now expect it to be approximately the same amount as in the last record season – about 29 million tons,” Rylko noted.
At the same time, he clarified that two local records are possible - for the sunflower harvest, which is expected to be 16.5 million tons, and maybe more, and for the soybean harvest, which will most likely exceed 7 million tons, which has not happened before. According to Rosstat, last season the sunflower harvest in the Russian Federation amounted to 16.4 million tons, soybeans - 6 million tons.
“As a result, if all this is processed, we will get a significant increase in the production of soybean and sunflower meals and cakes, which will please pig farmers,” Rylko said.
This season, the production of sunflower meal and cake can reach 6.3 million tons, which is 0.4 million tons more than last season, and from soybeans - 4.7 million tons compared to 4.3 million tons previously. Total production of meal and cake is expected to be 12.9 million tons, compared to 12.1 million tons last season. At the same time, Rylko notes that these products are in high demand on the world market and are actively exported.
“If this season Russia exports about 4.2 million tons, then 8.7 million tons will remain on the domestic market - this will also be a record, which has not happened before,” he said.
According to the presentation, last season the export of meal and cake amounted to 3.7 million tons. Speaking about the price situation on the meal market, Rylko noted that there will probably be no significant changes unless there are strong fluctuations in the dynamics of the ruble exchange rate, which significantly affects primarily soybean meal.
