It has been reported that China has significantly expanded the list of Russian companies interested in supplying barley, peas, and various types of meal to its market. According to information from Interfax, Rosselkhoznadzor provided data on the inclusion of another 590 companies in the lists compiled by the Chinese side.
These lists now include producers and storers of peas and barley from various regions of Russia, including Zabaykalsky Krai, Chuvashia, Tatarstan, Tyumen, Belgorod, Oryol, and Tambov regions. It is expected that this move will not only expand Russia's export potential for grain products but also contribute to the development of new trade opportunities in the Chinese market.
These changes were made following consultations conducted by Rosselkhoznadzor with the General Administration of Customs of China.
In a press release, it is stated that "based on applications received from business entities, inspections were carried out confirming the compliance of enterprises with China's quarantine phytosanitary requirements and safety standards. As a result of the inspections, the companies were recommended to the Chinese side to commence export shipments."
This year, pea exports from Russia to China have seen a significant increase. Export became possible from October of last year after the signing of relevant documents. The Center for Agroexport reports that from January to August of this year, 290 thousand tons of peas were shipped from Russia to China. However, the Chairman of the Grain Exporters Union, Eduard Zernin, notes that Russia is only just beginning to tap into one of the most attractive markets for peas and other leguminous crops in the world. He also points out the high competition from other pea suppliers, primarily from North America.
