According to the data from the local Ministry of Agriculture, as of September 13, in the Republic of Kalmykia, sunflower was harvested from an area of 3.7 thousand hectares, which is more than 52% of the total sown area of 7.8 thousand hectares. The gross sunflower harvest is estimated at 6.2 thousand tons, with a yield of 16.7 hundredweight per hectare. Flaxseed has been completely harvested from an area of 6.2 thousand hectares, producing 5.1 thousand tons of the crop with a yield of 8.3 hundredweight per hectare. Additionally, winter rapeseed has been fully harvested from an area of 0.22 thousand hectares, yielding 0.29 thousand tons of the crop with a yield of 12.8 hundredweight per hectare.
As for grain and leguminous crops, in the Republic of Kalmykia, 275 thousand hectares of land were used for sowing in the 2024 harvest season, out of which 241.3 thousand hectares were occupied by winter wheat. The harvesting of winter and early spring crops in the current season started two weeks earlier than in 2023, lasting from June 17 to July 31. The total grain harvest across the republic amounted to 728.6 thousand tons, exceeding the average indicators by 10% (666.0 thousand tons), with a yield of 23 hundredweight per hectare. This included 670.5 thousand tons of winter and spring wheat, 32.7 thousand tons of winter and spring barley, and 23.1 thousand tons of peas.
The best results in grain harvesting were shown by Yashaltinsky, Gorodovikovsky, and Sarpinsky districts. In the Yashaltinsky district, 197 thousand tons of grain were harvested, which is equivalent to 35.6 hundredweight per hectare. The Gorodovikovsky district estimated the harvest at 165 thousand tons of grain, with a yield of 36.9 hundredweight per hectare. Despite adverse weather conditions in the central zone, the Sarpinsky district surprised with its results and ranked third in grain harvesting with 110.9 thousand tons, having an average yield of 20.9 hundredweight per hectare.
Approximately 800 combine harvesters and over 1,000 vehicles were involved in the harvesting process, with the seasonal load per combine not exceeding 320 hectares. The total demand for fuel and lubricants in 2024 amounted to 15.7 thousand tons, including 13.8 thousand tons of diesel fuel and 1.9 thousand tons of gasoline. By the start of the harvesting season, the farms in the republic were provided with 90% of the required fuel. Cash reserves of diesel fuel amounted to 11.5 thousand tons, and gasoline - 2 thousand tons.
Rice harvesting in the region will begin in the third decade of September.
