According to FAS USDA estimates, Uruguay is expected to harvest 1.3 million tons of wheat in the 2024/25 season, slightly less than the previous season when 1.56 million tons were harvested. As reported by Grain Central, grain exports will also decrease to 800 thousand tons, compared to the previous 10 years when a peak of 1.13 million tons was reached in the 2023/24 season. Additionally, a 35% decrease in corn production is expected in Uruguay, down to 1 million tons compared to the previous season's record of 1.55 million tons. The reduction in production volume will mainly be due to the return of dry weather conditions in Uruguay during the spring and summer of the current year related to the La Niña phenomenon, which will negatively impact the wheat and corn yields.
