The analytical center "SovEcon" has reduced its forecast for wheat harvest in Russia by 1 million tons, now expected to be 93 million tons. This is the first reduction in forecast for the current season, the Center reports. The estimated data for winter wheat harvest at the moment is 67.3 million tons, which is 1 million tons less than previously predicted in March. Expectations for spring wheat harvest remain at 25.7 million tons and this figure has not changed. The forecast for the average yield has been reduced from 4.12 tons per hectare to 4.06 tons per hectare. This is due to unfavorable conditions for grain cultivation in some regions of the south, where there was a lack of precipitation and increased temperatures. "After a favorable winter, weather conditions in the southern regions of Russia are constantly deteriorating. If significant rainfall does not occur by mid-May, the wheat yield of the key Russian producer and exporter is likely to be significantly affected," said Andrey Sizov, the head of "SovEcon," quoted in the statement.
