At the direction of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, preferential investment lending for the construction of greenhouse complexes for growing flowers will be resumed in the near future, the Ministry of Agriculture announced after a meeting on the development of industrial floriculture. This support measure was in effect until the end of last year and contributed to the active development of the industry, the department notes. In 2024, Russia is proud to have reached a record of 436.8 million cut flowers and buds. Currently, there are 135 greenhouse complexes operating in the country, with a total area of 325 hectares.
The preferential lending program for the construction of flower greenhouses has been in operation since 2021. At a meeting with employees of the greenhouse complex "Porosinki" in the Moscow region, Mishustin assured that a decision regarding the extension of the program will be made, according to the publication "Agroinvestor." Addressing the Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut, he expressed his thoughts on this, saying: "Let's seriously think about it and try to make a decision. We will definitely try to extend this program, I am sure a solution will be found."
Also, at the meeting on the development of industrial floriculture, the issue of preparing qualified personnel in this industry was discussed. Currently, 27 universities under the Ministry of Agriculture provide training in this specialty. Educational programs focus on research in the field of breeding and propagation of ornamental plants.
Lut noted that the development of domestic breeding also contributes to the growth of flower production. Meeting participants discussed the work of research institutes specializing in breeding flower crops, as well as the establishment of a breeding center at the greenhouse complex "Porosinki." By focusing on the development of promising varieties and hybrids of roses resistant to diseases and pests, a significant contribution can be made to import substitution, as well as provide a scientific and production base for the sustainable development of ornamental horticulture, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
