Spring grain sowing area in Ukraine exceeded forecast

5.472 million hectares of cereals and leguminous crops were sown. The forecast has been exceeded by 15 thousand hectares.

As of June 1, 5.472 million hectares were sown with grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine, which exceeds the forecast figure (5.457 million hectares), the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine reported.

In the context of crops, as of the indicated date, the following were sown:

  • - spring wheat - 269.5 thousand hectares (94% of the forecast);
  • - spring barley - 766.1 thousand hectares (74%);
  • - peas - 136.1 thousand hectares (113%);
  • - oats - 145.6 thousand hectares (99%);
  • - corn - 3.893 million hectares (108%);
  • - buckwheat - 106.1 thousand hectares (92%);
  • - millet - 46.1 thousand ha (77%).

In addition, the sowing of oilseeds continues. Thus, almost 5.043 million hectares (89% of the forecast) were sown with sunflower as of June 1, and 1.739 million hectares (94%) with soybeans.

The ministry also noted that in two regions of Ukraine - Poltava and Kirovohrad - the sowing of spring crops has been completed completely.
