Discussions on the import of Ukrainian grain products have become the subject of discussion at an informal meeting of agriculture ministers of European Union countries and will be further discussed at the meeting of the European Commission on September 6, announced Janusz Wojciechowski, member of the Economic Commission of the European Union.

Janusz Wojciechowski, EU Commissioner for Agriculture, expressed his position, believing that it is necessary to support Ukraine and ensure the transit of its grain to ports so that these goods can be delivered to third countries.

Currently, the main amount of Ukrainian grain is being exported through "corridors of solidarity." However, it is important to find a solution that allows for the distribution of transit through different corridors. The issue of transit costs is also significant, and Janusz Wojciechowski proposed financial assistance to Ukraine to compensate for these expenses. Financial assistance from the European Commission is currently being discussed.

The Commissioner also noted that five EU countries facing the greatest pressure due to the import of Ukrainian grain products will receive support from the European Union. Ukraine is an important exporter of agricultural products to EU countries, with half of the total import volume from Ukraine consisting of food products. As a result of the blockade of sea routes, intermediaries sell Ukrainian grain at a lower price, negatively affecting Ukrainian and European producers.

Janusz Wojciechowski hopes that the World Trade Organization will not require a response from the EU and that a solution satisfactory to all parties, including Ukraine, will be found.
