By the beginning of this month, sunflower carryovers in Russian agricultural organizations decreased by 7% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 2.7 million tons.
According to the statistics department, the main reserves of seeds are located in the southern regions of Russia. The largest volumes are stored in the Rostov region - 437,400 tons, Krasnodar region - 219,500 tons and Volgograd region - 208,500 tons. The smallest volumes - 182 thousand tons - are concentrated in the Stavropol Territory.
It should be noted that all of these regions are the largest sunflower producers, where the majority of oil extraction plants specializing in seed processing are also located. A significant portion of the seeds also remained in the Voronezh and Tambov regions - 273.5 and 163.7 thousand tons, respectively. These regions are also leading in sunflower production and have many nearby processing plants.
The reason for maintaining large volumes of residues is not clear. This may be due to the policy of agricultural producers who prefer to keep a fresh harvest in anticipation of better prices, as well as restrictions on sunflower exports. A large number of processing enterprises also contributes to an increase in reserves of sunflower and other oilseeds.
