The Meshchansky Court of Moscow has decided to detain the founder of the company "Rusagro," Vadim Moshkovich, until May 25 on charges of fraud and abuse of office. Moshkovich's defense requested a softer measure of restraint and asked to release him on bail of 1 billion rubles. The accused denies his guilt.
The investigator insisted on the arrest, stating that Moshkovich has an Israeli passport, his children live abroad, and he owns a plane, which could make him a flight risk. However, Moshkovich pointed out that he does not own a plane, he is under sanctions, and he cannot leave Russia.
A similar measure of restraint until May 25 was also imposed on the former CEO of "Rusagro," Maxim Basov. He also refuses to admit his guilt and requests a preventive measure not related to imprisonment.
The prosecution believes that Moshkovich and Basov coerced the former co-owner of the company "Solnechnye Produkty," Vladislav Burov, to sell his stake in exchange for investments and fulfilling obligations. "Rusagro" acquired the shares in the autumn of 2018. It is known that Moshkovich and Basov are accused of embezzling around 1 billion rubles.
Initially, the company "Solnechnye Produkty" turned to law enforcement agencies with a statement for the initiation of a criminal case against Moshkovich in 2023. However, no evidence of the crime was found during the investigation. Earlier this year, an appeals court will review the complaint against this decision.
Earlier, law enforcement conducted searches in the offices of "Rusagro," and the company confirmed that it did not affect its operations and all obligations are being fulfilled in full.
