During the first ten months of 2024, the volume of veterinary vaccines produced in Russia significantly exceeded the indicator for the previous year. This information was reported by Ksenia Pugacheva, the head of the department of regulatory and legal regulation in the field of circulation of medicinal products, feed, and feed additives for animals, from the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.
The number of vaccines produced reached 27.08 billion doses by October 31. This is an increase of 40.7% compared to the previous year. Pugacheva shared this data during her speech at the international exhibition Pharmtech & Ingredients.
During this period in Russia, 26.69 billion doses of vaccines were produced for birds, 78.8 million doses for pigs, 36.8 million doses for cattle, 9.6 million doses for cats and dogs, and 103.3 million doses for other animal species. Approximately 150.7 million doses of vaccines against particularly dangerous animal diseases were also issued.
During the same period, Russia imported 13.78 billion doses of vaccines and 21.18 million packages of veterinary drugs. Pugacheva added that there are Russian equivalents for the most popular drugs from foreign manufacturers. Local manufacturers continue to expand their capabilities, develop new veterinary drugs, and modernize production.
From the beginning of the current year until the end of October, Russian manufacturers released 139.03 million packages of chemical and pharmaceutical preparations, noted Pugacheva.
Timur Chibilayev, Executive Director of the National Veterinary Association, added that domestic producers plan to double the volume of veterinary drug production over the next six years: from 97.7 billion rubles in 2023 to 176.8 billion rubles by 2030.
This will allow achieving self-sufficiency in vaccines at 61% by 2030 and up to 70% for chemical and pharmaceutical preparations, Chibilayev concluded.
