World prices for wheat have fallen: the main changes in the grain market for the reporting week.

World wheat prices have fallen: CBOT -4.38%, KCBT -3.93%, MGE -4.23%.

On the Chicago exchange, corn dropped by 2.65%, rice is at $15.00/cwt.

Russia has banned wheat imports from Kazakhstan due to quarantine. The quality of wheat in Russia exceeds 2023 standards.

CIS countries have agreed on direct grain supplies. Grain yields in the countries: Belarus - over 9.7 million tons, Kazakhstan - 25.8 million tons, Ukraine - 42.8 million tons.

During the reporting week, from 11.10.24 to 18.10.24, world prices for wheat were falling. Prices for various types of wheat and other grains:

Quotations for corn at the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT, ZC) declined to 404.75 cents/bushel (-2.65%). The price of rice in Chicago (CBOT, ZR) rose to $15.00/cwt (+0.07%).

Indicative prices for grain from Russia (FOB Black Sea):

  • wheat increased to $219.40/tonne (+1.43%);
  • barley decreased to $178.60/tonne (-1.60%);
  • corn was lowered to $209.30/tonne (-4.12%);

The wheat index in Russia, CPT Novorossiysk, decreased to 18075 rubles/tonne (-1.82%).

Domestic purchase prices for 4th class wheat with 12.5% protein at port elevators of the Black and Azov Seas during the reporting period:

Russia introduced an official ban on wheat imports from Kazakhstan. The ban came into effect on October 17, 2024. The date for lifting the restrictions is not specified. However, transit of grain through Russia is allowed under certain conditions. Rosselkhoznadzor explained the temporary restrictions by frequent cases of detecting quarantine objects in Kazakhstani products.

Countries have agreed to hold bilateral consultations on resuming deliveries of Kazakhstani grain to Russia.

The quality of wheat this year significantly exceeds the indicators of 2023. According to the FGBU "Grain Quality Assessment Center", as of October 11, 29% of 3rd class wheat, 49% of 4th class wheat, and 22% of 5th class wheat were found in the testing laboratories of this center. A total of 63 million tons of grain were analyzed in 66 regions of Russia.

Turkey will continue to restrict wheat imports after the end of a four-month ban on purchases (October 15). Flour mills will only be allowed to import 15 tons of wheat out of every 85 tons they purchase from the Turkish Grain Board.

The Grain Exporters Union has identified 13 countries to which Russian grain and grain products will be supplied directly without the use of foreign intermediaries. Deliveries will be made directly to the state agencies and sovereign buyers of the following countries: Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Qatar, Kuwait, South Korea, Pakistan, India, Iraq.

Harvesting campaign in the regions of Russia. A state of emergency in agriculture has been introduced in the Kursk region and in Kalmykia due to atmospheric and soil drought. A nearly 27.3% decrease in total grain yield is expected in the Kursk region compared to last year. In Khakassia, farmers stopped harvesting crops for a week due to snowfall and a sharp drop in temperature. In the Rostov region, planting of winter cereals was postponed due to lack of moisture.

Grain auctions from the intervention fund were held on all scheduled days. During the trading period, almost 64.3 thousand tons of grain were sold for a total amount exceeding 1 billion rubles.

Starting from October 23, 2024, changes in customs duties on wheat and meslin have been introduced, which have increased, while duties on barley and corn have been reduced.

BELARUS
The total grain harvest, including rapeseed, amounted to over 9.7 million tons. Corn threshing continues, with 75% of the fields already threshed. A total of 1.821 million tons of corn grain have been threshed.

KAZAKHSTAN
25.8 million tons of grain and leguminous crops have been harvested with an average yield of 15.7 dt/ha from a total area of over 16.4 million ha (98.6%). Currently, there is a complex situation with the sale and delivery of grain to elevators.

UKRAINE
Grain collectives harvested 42.8 million tons of grain crops, including 22.3 million tons of wheat, 5.5 million tons of barley, and 13.2 million tons of corn.
